  • Located on the East Coast of Zanzibar on a stunning white beach.
  • Ideally suited to those who are interested in relaxing, diving and snorkling.
  • Excellent dive centre managed directly by the hotel.
  • Three amazing restaurants offering excellent cuisine, theme evenings and the option of a romantic dinner on the beach!
  • Excellent service from the very friendly and hospitable Swahili staff.
  • Tennis courts, gymnasium and excellent spa for that well-deserved relaxation.
  • Lovely choice for a honeymoon but families are well catered for as well.

Based on flight availability on the scheduled, direct services of Mango Airlines.

The hotel has 89 rooms: junior suites, Cottages and Garden rooms.

The Junior suite rooms have a generous sea view situated along the beachfront.

Cottage rooms are on a gentle slope behind the junior suites and offer limited sea views through the lush palm tree tops.

Garden rooms a little bit smaller than the cottages and the junior suites, located at the top of the slope in the lush tropical gardens. All have easy access to the long stretch of beach.

All the rooms have air-conditioners, a ceiling fan, television, Wi-Fi, mini-bar, telephone, tea-coffee maker, hairdryer, safe box and en-suite marble bathrooms. Each room has its own veranda and the beds have mosquito nets.

Karafuu Beach Resort is situated on the eastern side of the island which is greatly influenced by the tide. You can slip straight into the water and swim far out when the tide is high, but when the tide recedes you have to wade out to the fringing reef, which can be fun if you want to look for marine life in the shallows.

Karafuu is the only hotel on the east coast where you can enjoy a comfortable and safe swim in the ocean at low tide. A concrete path in front of the hotel leads from the beach to a permanent natural depression in the ocean bed just 200 meters offshore, offering a giant natural swimming pool.

Best time to travel to zanzibar

The best time to travel to Zanzibar is in the dry season from mid July to early October.  During these months the temperatures are milder and not as hot and humid as the peak tourist months (December - March, which are great months for snorkeling and deep-sea fishing).  April to June is when the long rains fall and October to December is when the short rains fall.

Zanzibar – the "Spice Island" famous for its spices such as cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, pepper and more, is located in the Indian ocean about 40km east of Tanzania and is part of an archipelago made up of Zanzibar (also known as Unguja, but more widely known as Zanzibar), Pemba Island (situated North-East from Zanzibar) and smaller islets surrounding Zanzibar.  Zanzibar is known for its beautiful white sand beaches and surrounding coral reefs, clear ocean water and rich history.  The east coast hosts the most popular resorts and hotels and great accommodation can also be found in the North in Nungwi.  Zanzibar is a great destination for relaxing, diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and swimming with the dolphins.  A visit to the historic Stone Town with its narrow pathways and lively markets is an interesting cultural experience.  Zanzibar is also home to the rare Red Colobus Monkey, which is recognized as a distinct species.
